The 10th Siberian International Marathon (SIM) was held on August 7th, 1999, Omsk, Russia. As it was the jubilee one the organisers tried their best to make this sport competition unforgettable for all runners, regardless of their age, sex, and distance they run. Everyone can find a distance for himself: a marathon, 10 km fun-run, the mini-marathon for children, distance for roller-skaters, the ekiden (marathon relay-race).

For the first time in the Siberian International Marathon's history professional runners from abroad participated in the marathon. Melk Tiro Mothuli, Nixon Nkodima, and Isaac Tschabalala, together with their coach Mr. Dewald Steyn came from South Africa to take part in the SIM and to try to win the traditional marathon first-place prize - the car "SVYATOGOR".

Except elite foreign runners, there were a lot of other marathon participants, came from abroad.

Yavus Sap, the disabled marathoner, who uses crunches to participate the marathon distance, and Osman Atakan Tekin, his coach, came to Omsk with the mission of friendship and courage. They completed the whole marathon distance in 8:52.36.

Marathon program

The marathon program began on the day before the race with the beautiful Opening Ceremony. The participants were welcomed by the Governor of Omsk Region. Different folk-bands, singers, sport groups took part in the Opening Ceremony.

The next day was the Race Day and it was full of surprises. At first, the race was leaded by the South-African runners. They showed their strength and their professionalism and for approximately 30 km they were leaders in the race. However, Russian runners didn't give up and at last Mikhail Khobotov outstripped our foreign guests and became the winner of the marathon.

The Awarding Ceremony.

After the marathon itself, its program continued with the Awarding Ceremony, which was held on the same day evening. After the Awarding Ceremony the marathon program continued with a festival which was held in the city.
